If I kept my stuff strictly to a 24" rolling luggage, a day sized backpack, and a micro sauce sized ****pit and a dinner plate sized griddle. Would I be ok in a lightweight you think?
I know you never drove a lightweight. But I'm fearing prime won't let me get a full sized truck even if I asked for my fiancee and I to live over the road in the truck. I've heard fullsized were limited to trainers, and teams.
We both want to live together otr as a couple team (she navigates and I drive) full-size or not we both are doing it we just wanted to get your opinion on it if you could please.
She wouldn't be joining me until my 6 month mark because I want to get a handle on driving a truck with as little worry and as quiet as possible.
I asked Prime for a full size truck and got it with no questions asked. They don't hassle you at all about why you want one either.
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

Oh cool. Ok thanks. I've read on other forums (typed in a Google search and I read the page. Before I found truckers truth) I'm glad I've been misinformed this time around. I like the full size tractor for the fact that my fiancee and I would be much more comfortable on it. What do you guys do for storing your cars for prolonged periods of time? In my situation once I get on the road my home Is my truck. So my current leased car has nowhere to really go lol and all the gas inside the tank is gonna turn stale. Does prime allow storage of a car in one of their terminals?
A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

Regarding the full size, yes as stated you would have to pay your own hotel and not get paid until one comes in...but the flip side is true as well. Miss Myoshi wanted a LW and she was told she could have a full size but would have to pay for room if she waited for the LW. The LW came in right away. My own full size came in right away and I didn't pay for hotel.
As for the storage...I put my car and belongings in a storage facility but my sister and bro take the car out to exercise it.
I've said it B4....prime myths: prime will force you to lease, company drivers make no miles, company and new drivers get LW..... All untrue

Since you stated you want to start by yourself, then have your significant other join you at 6 months; why not start with a LW then upgrade to a full size once you hit 6 months?
Awesome thanks so much for debunking those myths. I've known prime doesn't push leasing and I'm not too worried about that. After learning more info about that I'll lease when ready long time from starting. I'm hoping my full-size isn't too long of a wait. But that's why I am going to training after tax returns lol
If I do need to wait for the full size, can I opt to keep practicing in the simulator and skid pad until the truck comes in?
Wait a second I can do that Patrick? I'm not locked in for a year or w.e. for the model size?
I am not positive as I don't work for Prime, but I don't see why they wouldn't allow you to do that.
My wonderful wife has my truck so stocked with canned food and stuff that I can live out of my truck (as far as food goes) for a month or more LOL. It gets better when she joins me on trips, every cabinet and under bunk storage is packed. At least I don't have to eat fast food or that crap. Good times

You can switch. Happens all the time. If u do the LW first it might help you cause you will be making more CPM while paying back prime for load locks, TWIC card, locks, chains, and any advance you might take.
I have friends who went LW first then later changed to bring spouses, pets, or just wanted extra room. Prime wants the drivers to be happy. ;)
Drivers are often paid by the mile and it's given in cents per mile, or cpm.
Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.
Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.

Reaper, your misinformed about your choice. Prime will give you a full size tractor if that's what you want. It's your choice, but they offer a pay incentive for using the lightweight. The only catch to the deal is that if you request a full size tractor and there's not one available at that moment, you may have to wait a few days for one to come open. In that scenario Prime expects you to provide for your own lodging while you wait. Tractors are turned in on a steady basis at these large carriers, so generally your wait time will not be excessive.
