How far are you from Tampa?
I refuse to team (after training) so I can understand the ordeal your going through in weighing your option.
I know in my case, Schneider was my top choice in the beginning. As time went on, I realized their training was only for a week. That's no where near enough time for me to get comfortable. Also, even though I live one hundred something miles from one of their locations, everytime I do a job search based on my zip code, no jobs from Schneider show up. I'm currently leaning towards Werner, but who knows! Making these decisions is tough, and I don't have a wife to consider!
Good luck!

How far are you from Tampa?
About 2 1/2 hours from my doorstep to Busch Gardens but I have family in Auburndale which is not too far from there. Why?
You can check out Tampa Truck driving school.... They can school you up in 3 weeks and get you placed with a Carrier that will pay you better than 300 a week. Plus you may qualify for no money out of pocket.
Sorry just realized this is your second thread on same issue. This was brought up on last thread...
Hello, i just want to chime in. Just to put it bluntly, if you're going to go into truck driving for WAY more money than $700/wk starting out you're really going to be disappointed.
I was making $450/wk with Werner when i was training and after training there some weeks when i didn't even make training money. That and i was on the road for 60-70 hours.
Now i run dedicated and i make about $1k gross but i haven't taken a 34hour reset in 5 months, run on recap all the time, and i think I've taken 4 days off in those 5 months for home time.
What I'm trying to say is money is a huge issue for you you might want to think twice because although it is possible to make more your going to work A LOT more to do it than a normal 9-5.
The Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) is a person who evaluates employees who have violated a DOT drug and alcohol program regulation and makes recommendations concerning education, treatment, follow-up testing, and aftercare.
Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.
Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.
You are in for a rude awakening. The pay in the beginning isn't that good. I made about 250 a week net when I was with a trainer. This was a lot of money for me being I was used to making 350 every two weeks. Also pay in this job, particularly otr , isn't consistent. You will have good and bad weeks.
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
Prime pays $700 per week during training GROSS
Thanks! Makes sense but my wife would never go for it............"Honey, I've decided to leave my job making $40,000/yr to make nothing for a month, then $300/week for 2 months, then maybe around $40-50K within my first year. Oh, and I'll be home only 3-4 days a month but that's not guaranteed." Lol..............that conversation would not go too well......Lol
Then forget trucking. I'm doing really well and will finish this year just under $50k. I get home on time when I ask, up to four days per month. I feel as though I make more cause I live on the truck with very little overhead now.
Prime doesn't pay for the roughly two weeks with a permit but will advance you food money of $200 per week if you desire. Then you drive 30k miles in a team with a trainer at $700 gross. At 90 days you are eligible for benefits. My avg take home the first couple months solo was $600. Now I'm avg about $900 clear a week. I dont pay attention to gross...sorry lol. But have medical vision disability and $300k in life insurance.
At one year the health insurance goes down dramatically and you are entitled to the 401k which prime matches a % of. To expect much more is unrealistic, both in pay and home time. Local gigs might have you home but usually pay less..at least in my area.
I had a one year contract but paid nothing towards it as long as I stayed with the company. So my contract is up and I'm free and clear.
But reading your posts, it seems as though you have unrealistic views. Not saying you won't find what you want....and good luck on doing so.
