So today we were practicing alley docking in the yard and I did it with the help of my instructor, but I didn't mess it up. I'm feeling really confident about myself today. I think my main problem was that I was just getting frustrated and that it's where you start to mess up.
Your results will vary. One time you can make an alley dock you want to video as "This Is How It's Done". Then the very next time you feel you couldn't stick the trailer between two soccer goal posts! So instead of getting frustrated, just make a big sigh, and try again.
Remember, each time you mess up is really a mini-lesson. Think of your mistake, and then move along. If your instructor helped, which part did he help the most? What did he say, what did you do? If you do that thinking, you will be learning and you should do better next time.
It's in your point of view. Suppose you let the tandem tire run over the curb on a right turn, in traffic. Your instructor says you failed the test.
You can try to analyze your mistake, decide to pull out farther before you turn the wheel. You realize your next try will be better. This is the path to success.
Or, you realize you'll always hit the curb, and you are a lousy truck driver, running over the curb every time. You might well give up since you can't do better. Maybe you can get a job pushing shipping carts at Walmart.
Which way do you want to go?
A set of axles spaced close together, legally defined as more than 40 and less than 96 inches apart by the USDOT. Drivers tend to refer to the tandem axles on their trailer as just "tandems". You might hear a driver say, "I'm 400 pounds overweight on my tandems", referring to his trailer tandems, not his tractor tandems. Tractor tandems are generally just referred to as "drives" which is short for "drive axles".
So..how are we doing now Ibn T?
