Only if your hair is not long enough for a sample!
Not necessarily. Someone said not too long ago that they had a hair follicle test done and they took hair somewhere from the body instead of the head even though there was plenty of hair for a sample.

I would assume other body hair grows quite a bit slower than the hair on your head, therefore will provide a longer timeline than head hair. Lets not forget WHY they are taking the hair sample in the first place. If the hair on your head can show illicit substances going back 6 months and armpit hair can go back 2 years(just an example, I have no idea), they will take the sample that will give them the longest timeline. Everyone must remember that there is a ZERO tolerance policy in this Industry, and Employers will do whatever is necessary to enforce the policy.

Actually - all hair grows at nearly the same rate - and typically, is replaced every 6 months (as in HUMANS SHED) including BODY HAIR. Much depends on metabolism. Which is not to say that every single hair falls out and gets replaced at the same time - just that the life-span of the follicle itself is 6 months - and when the follicle dies, the hair falls out and is replaced by a new follicle. Sadly, for many guys getting on in age - perhaps not on their heads as they would like.
To repeat - we have had reports of folks ON THIS BOARD that have failed after waiting the recommended 6 months. Is the magic number 7 months? Couldn't tell you.
And I'm not judging. I'm happy that people understand that drugs and trucking don't mix, and are willing to give up an otherwise pretty innocuous (but still federally illegal) substance in order to start a career in the industry. For better or worse, it appears that the tests are either getting more sensitive (urine & hair) or the range of time it takes to be able to clear a test, has a wider range of variance for weed than we historically assumed it did. Either that or people reporting positive tests have "cheated" and thought that "one bitty doober" wasn't going to screw them (entirely possible also).
Drug testing - especially around weed use - is a topic that engenders raging debate here. It really just is, what it is. Our purpose is not to advise how to beat the tests - but what realistic window folks should get cleaned up before taking one.
Rick
I would opt for paying for a drug test right now to see if you already test ckean. Surely there's a way to do that without it being 'pre-employment'. Then you'll get a good idea of your timeline going forward.
