I have never hit a deer in my car or the truck. I have been hit by 3-4 deer in my automobile but not in the truck yet. I know I know, play on words and blame but I never admit to hitting anything, I am always hit by them!! smile.gifconfused.gif

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

I came across an accident just north of Sharon, PA a couple of years back. Saw fresh deer gore spewed all over the road , and as we dorve by I looked off down an embankment on the passenger side, and saw headlights. Yelled at the wife to stop.

We backed up, and just as we got there a guy was helping his 13 year old daughter over the guardrail. She had sore ribs from the belt, and appeared to be going into shock. Poor girl was scared to death. He had been pulling a race car in an enclosed trailer with a pickup and swerved to miss the deer.

We stayed with them for an hour and a half waiting for the state police, treating the girl for shock, to be safe. By the time they got there, she was pretty much OK, just sore. Didn't help people kept running over the head when we first got there. Every time it thumped, she would jerk. Finally was clear enough to drag it out of the road. It was the biggest piece left.

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

Resurrecting this old thread.

I had #30 early this morning on I-24, somewhere around Hobson, Kentucky. It came from the left side as a blur, then a loud "thump" a second later below and behind the door. I stopped to do a visual but luckily no damage.

I'm now qualified for a set of steak knives AND a toaster!

And watch out for those Moose up in Maine. The only place I’ve been that have Moose crossing warning signs. BTW, how do they get the Moose to cross the road at those signs?

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.
