So im on break at work today studying high road training tools, and i get the overwhelming urge to want to walk out my works door jump on a truck and start backing and shifting gears. I seriously was bad enough i had my clutch foot lifting slightly as i twitched my fingers on the table in a shifting pattern. Even got my thumb to act as a splitter and a range selector for the transmissions. Seriously im chomping at the bit NEEDING not even wanting anymore to start driving. Lol i am actually getting myself angry because im soo frustrated i cant hop in and drive. Is this normal?

Also i now identify as a peterbilt and my heart rate is at a consistent 850 idle.

Then do it man. Trust me, you won't get rid of the itch until you scratch it.

Well, I was itching to get behind the wheel, but I don't think I was quite that bad. After 10 months the driving part is still fun though, most of the time. But I still find it funny that other drivers (well, four wheelers at least) probably think I know what I'm doing.

PSD:

Prime Student Driver

Prime Inc has a CDL training program and the first phase is referred to as PSD. You'll get your permit and then 10,000 miles of on the road instruction.

The following is from Prime's website:

Prime’s PSD begins with you obtaining your CDL permit. Then you’ll go on the road with a certified CDL instructor for no less than 75 hours of one-on-one behind the wheel training. After training, you’ll return to Prime’s corporate headquarters in Springfield, Missouri, for final CDL state testing and your CDL license.

Obtain CDL Permit / 4 Days

  • Enter program, study and test for Missouri CDL permit.
  • Start driving/training at Prime Training Center in Springfield, Missouri.
  • Work toward 40,000 training dispatched miles (minimum) with food allowance while without CDL (Food allowance is paid back with future earnings).

On-the-Road Instruction / 10,000 Miles

  • Train with experienced certified CDL instructor for 3-4 weeks in a real world environment.
  • Get 75 hours of behind-the-wheel time with one-on-one student/instructor ratio.
  • Earn 10,000 miles toward total 40,000 miles needed.

I've read your other thread, you said you needed your tax return for your fiancée. But why April? Seems like you would have a simple return, which could be done mid January to early February. Also, you're afraid your fiancée's parents will kick her out if you just go. They would have to go to court and have her evicted. That could buy her 30 days.

You don't need a passport either. We only go to Canada and it seems only the experienced teams go there. Might as well save the money.

But I was more unable to handle my job anymore. I hated it and walked out. Two weeks later I applied online and was on a bus within five days.

Only regret is not doing it sooner.

I thought it over and i want to at the very least stay for the holidays. My bday is newyears eve. Her bday is feburary. She needs her license before i even leave anyways. After tax return the longest thing that will keep me here before april is her getting her license.... shes 24 and only has her permit.... that is what she and i agreed on. So holidays, tax returns, license. Lol those are the order of shortest to longest for my issues to be held out here.

HOS:

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

Speaking of shifting, as a company drivers could I ask for a manual transmission? Or is it only auto?

When you first go solo you will probably get manual with some miles on. If you take a LW you could get a brand new auto. Most of the newly solo drivers I know are getting manuals with a couple hundred thousand miles.

Its kinda the luck of the draw though. If a lease op got an auto six.months ago then walked away from the deal it could either be leased to another driver or given to a company driver.

I was already told I'd be in my truck for at least another year. All new trucks coming in are autos unless the lease ops pay extra for the option. Which means, there will continue to be limited manuals even after the company fleet has switched over.
