For those of you who go without a CB let me ask this rhetorical question. Say you were called into the Safety Manager's office and he showed you this video. After the video he asks, "Now are you going to install a CB in your truck?"

What are you gonna say? You just watched people die because drivers didn't have a CB on.

I'm sorry, but coming from New York, I have driven through weather like that. In that snow and Ice storm I would have been moving at a crawl or stopped. My life is the most important freight. That was a heart wrenching video.

I bought a fairly new deluxe Cobra for half price from a driver who was quitting when I went solo. There are always drivers who are leaving for one reason or another. At a big company, you can ask the folks who detail trucks or who assign trucks if they can give you the phone numbers of drivers who are leaving to see if any of them have a CB they might want to sell.

I agree with Brett Aquila, that out of a sense of responsibility get a CB radio. I have been considering it for quite sometime. I'm in CDL school and I am already looking for a good and reliable CB if anyone can tell me a really good CB let me know. Thanks a bunch!!

TA (in Franklin, TN) has the Cobra 29 LTD Classic and Chrome for $99.97. I bought the Chrome. I needed a good CB. The one I had was a used small cheap CB I got off a buddy for free. No range, lol.

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

I'm in cdl school right now but a cb is top priority for me! That and an atlas and a GPS. Thanks for sharing that Brett. I literally cringed watching that video and almost couldn't watch it at times. I'm going to ask my instructor to show this tomorrow in class.!
