I would like to thank Brett for this very informative site, I found it a month ago and have used it to locate a driving school and study for my commercial learner's permit, took all my tests today and passed with just a few missed questions ( cdl a, t, p, n, h). School starts on the 19th and I can't wait. John Miller

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

CLP:

Commercial Learner's Permit

Before getting their CDL, commercial drivers will receive their commercial learner's permit (CLP) upon passing the written portion of the CDL exam. They will not have to retake the written exam to get their CDL.

I am halfway done with my CDL class. If you studied the high road series, you likely will not learn much. At least I didn't. But I did study for at least a year before I went to CDL school.

Yes the Highroad Training definitely gives a student a leg-up during school. I take it form your post that you haven't really gotten into the "meat" of your schooling; shifting, backing, and actual driving? If so,...you will quickly move from knowing the material to being challenged beyond anything previously imagined. Good luck.
