As a brand new inexperienced solo driver fresh out of school, I'd say it is. It was for me anyway, until I got faster at backing, drop n hooks, and knowing exactly which macros to send in without double checking my handbook.

As I became more efficient it became easier for me to exceed it.

Drugs and trucking don't mix.

Mr. M. They certainly don't and I'm sure the OP realizes that. However people aren't perfect and some have partaken in lifestyle choices that would be detrimental to a career in trucking, months before they ever contemplated attending school.

That said, a hair follicle test can go back for quite a long time and it's uncertain as to how far back is reasonably safe to persue a job as a driver. Some say over 6 months. As a retited health care professional, I would guess longer. A failed test would ruin a career before it ever begins.
