Anything below 10F, you're better off idling. Not just for your own comfort and safety, but for the sake of your batteries. If they get too cold for too long, your truck won't start. This also applies to reefers. If you're pulling a reefer in extreme cold, run it on continuous.
Also, make sure you're putting anti-gel in your fuel tanks. It's preferable to put it in and then add fuel on top of it to make sure it's thoroughly dispersed, but in a pinch you can dump it in on top of your fuel and then just rock your truck back and forth a bit to get it to mix in.
A refrigerated trailer.

That's thinking outside the box, great idea!
I never thought about rocking the truck. Good tip!
Our trucks shut down after five minutes of idling. Took a 34 at the terminal and its so cold my truck won't move. Its like its saying "brrrr. Don't make me go please...unless its to MS or someplace warm....even Atlanta traffic isn't looking so bad now"
A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.
I am really starting to get used to Atlanta traffic. I won't go so far as to say it is not bad, but it has become not THAT bad.
It hit -8 last night. It was cold! I idled the truck for about four hours

I am so totally with you! Spent last night in Iowa at the marvelous Iowa 80 TS, and my face hurt just walking inside...and I am really close to the building! Give me Dallas/Ft. Worth or Atlanta traffic over this ANY day.

I'm freezing my A$$ off in Utah right now. 10 degrees. ( I'm from Tucson, AZ). Idled all night, added anti gel at my fuel stop in Arizona prior to driving here yesterday. The truck stop parking lot is asphalt coated with packed snow and ice. Wish I knew how to ice skate!

I'm in Maine tonight and it's currently -3. Is it ok to shut the truck off or is it best to leave it running?
