Finished Swift CDL school and heading into orientation next week. Does anyone know if they have any available pay advances? Do they pay weekly or every 2 weeks?

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Pay is weekly. You can set up direct deposit or they'll put it on your Com data card . I'm pretty sure you can draw $200 a week in advances but I don't remember how quickly they have you pay it back.

This is a fantastic question that I would be interested in knowing more about (like if you have to be there for a certain time before you can do advances) since I am looking to start with swift in the next couple of months once I get my bills caught up.

Your first check will be delayed for 2-3 weeks depending on when you start and how the pay periods fall. After that it is weekly. Pay period for Company Drivers is Monday- Sunday. Your pay for that period will Direct deposit a week later on Tuesday. I have never taken an advance but I'm sure you will qualify for one. You won't be the only Dead A$$ Broke Truck Driver that has been in that position after Orientation.

The timeline is about 2weeks after you finish orientation as stated above but max advance is 106. Figure any atm will charge you about 3 bucks in fees for cash. Being on a mentors truck wont cost much if you're frugal the first week. Think protein bars and water.

When I was at swift a few months ago and to get a company advance you had to be under a load. But if you talk to ms Shirley she can help you

TBH my favorite place to shop to stock my truck is Dollar Tree. At the one near my house has a grocery section. Best part everything is a dollar. So it is easy to figure out how much it will cost. You would be surprised at what they have.

If you have a phone where you can download trucker path (free at google play store), click on the walmart icon and they tell you where they are and if you can park an 18 wheeler in there. Some allow overnite parking.
