So I have not been on the road for at least a year. I've been threw alot in my life and I'm reaching out for answers. My driving record is pretty bad, from reckless driving in Virginia in a personal vehicle to my license being suspended for 3 months for not having insurance in my personal vehicle as well as 2 marijuana misdemeanor charges on my record. one of them was a deferred judgement which I completed. I'm currently serving 3 months of probation for a recent charge that happen in August. I just got my CDL back not to long ago and my medical card expires on the 29th of this month. I've been denied by every job. I went threw a drug treatment program on my previous charge which led to my deferred judgment. I'm literally about to give up and just say F it. I don't know what to do. I currently work in a freezer packing out wholesale food. I miss the road but it doesn't look like I'll be getting back on it anytime soon.

  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.

Check local jobs.

Also check into distribution centers near you that may need hostlers (yard dogs) that may hire you to move trailers around. If you can get hired and keep the job for awhile, you'll probably have better luck.

Do an online application with Carolina Cargo, then after about 24 hours, give them a call. They hire felons and drivers with bad MVR. They don't go by what's on their website; they bend their own hiring rules. They do California turnarounds back to back and that's all they do. You can have hometime after 3 turns, then back at it again.

Quentin, we have a list of companies that hire felons:

Companies That Hire Drivers With Felonies

But seriously, it would take quite the miracle to find a worthwhile job with your record and if you do it's almost certainly going to be some tiny mom-n-pop company that's always on the verge of failing with broken down garbage and incredible demands put on the driver.

My suggestion would be to exhaust every avenue when it comes to finding work, but don't quit the job you have because it's probably not going to happen. If indeed you are unable to find work in trucking then they only thing you can do is clean up your act and get into trucking in about 3 - 5 years. Keep your record spotlessly clean and establish a solid work history. But you've been running around like a bull in a china shop making a complete mess of things for yourself. Trucking is all about responsibility. You're going to have to learn to live a whole different way if you want to be given the opportunity to handle that level of responsibility.

Are you clean and sober now? How long? How old are you? How much actual trucking experience did you get? Good news, I know some small companies that are hiring and might take you on. Bad news, you'd be moving to Utah. Wait, that didn't come out right, I love it out West! Maybe you would too. Wish there was a way to PM you. Good luck, patience may be the only avenue available.
