Scott, I don't know where you live, but if you have a big truck stop near enough for you to drive to, you can go there and check out all the goodies. The prices may not be as good as online, but at least you can get an eyeball on the things before you buy them. The truckers store in the big truck stops have some pretty cool stuff.
Our trucks come with a fridge and a CB antenna. There is ample storage space. I have added satellite radio (I would lose the fridge before I drive without my satellite radio. ..lol). I also have added GPS, CB, and a crockpot. Pretty spartan...but we don't sit much as a team so it works out pretty well.

Pretty cool! Seems to me that satellite radio would be a must sooner or later.
TailGunner - Roger....I've driven across country a few times (family lives in Buffalo) and have looked at some things in Truck Stops and they always seem to be pricey.
Scott I'm like you. I have looked at stuff in truck stops several times. Always found better prices on the web even after shipping charges. Just depends on how fast you need it. But I always try and find an item locally to eyeball first to be sure it's what I want.
I have only been out here for three weeks and already I can tell you this much.
Each company will differ with what they will allow the driver to have in their trucks. It depends on a lot of factors.
Are you an OTR driver? Do you drive team? Are you regonal?
The company I drive for, the team trucks are set up with a small ref. Outlets through out the sleeper. And a few other things.
A solo truck, even though a solo driver can be in the truck just as long as a team, does not have a ref or outlets.
We are only allowed 2 inverters of 350W max. But they have to be the kind that plugs in. None can be hard wired into the truck. I don't know of any ref that will run on that.
We provide our own CB. Sirius Radio we provide. Anything we use for personal use, we provide.
Provided it will plug in or doesn't use more than 350W. So count out a Micowave.
You have to look at the company you will work for and find out what they allow.
And watch out for the "light weight trucks" that some companies are going to. One bunk and literally about half the room of a normal sleeper cab.
Keep it safe out here. Joe S
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
A lot of good information so far in this thread. It gives us wannabees an idea on what to expect and what to plan for. Thanks for all the input. Further comments are still welcome.
My company truck doesnt come wirh anything besides cigarette plugs but they will install for free a 1500 watt inverter you buy, your cb, a tv. Basically you buy it they install it. Their thought is they would rather it be done right.

Though it going to be about six months or so before I get into trucking, I've already began putting about $50 bucks back per paycheck just for this purpose. I remember once finding a kewl website for truckers that had gadgets and stuff really inexpensive, but can't seem to remember it. Any good sites to check out?
