Hello Sean, welcome to Trucking Truth! Staying out on Christmas Eve, too!
Most of the major companies will want you to get updated with school of you're out of a truck for more than six months. (When I went through Swift's school, one student was a Swift Mentor trainer, not driving for six months, had to go through school. Yes, he tested out on a week. So you'll need to do that, too.

Pre-hire letters are acceptance letters from trucking companies to students, or even potential students, to verify placement. The trucking companies are saying in writing that the student, or potential student, appears to meet the company's minimum hiring requirements and is welcome to attend their orientation at the company’s expense once he or she graduates from truck driving school and has their CDL in hand.

I've had my CDL since 2008, but I haven't been in a truck since I finished school in 2008. Now I'm ready to put my license to use and know that I will have to start OTR first. My concern is that I see some companies even want you to have atleast 3 months verifiable experience which I don't. Also, since it's been so long since I've been out of school and not driven, do I need a refresher course before applying to drive or is that something the company will do for me?
