I pretty much decided on Prime. I sent in the last bit of paperwork today, I imagine Heather will finalize everything tomorrow.

I thought about driving to Pittson even though its a long trip (13 hours) in my personal car. Do you get dispatched with your trainer immediately after orientation or do they send you home first?

You go out with your trainer and when you get home again depends on the trainer and your situation. Expect to be out about six weeks before going home.

I got there Sept 21... Went home Nov 18th cause mom needed surgery....went home again DEC 23....not back home again til I went solo..Feb 25ish.

After that I have gotten home every four weeks or as I request it. I tend to stay out longer.

I work for J&R Schugel in the dry van division. I absolutely love this company. The only thing I don't like is no pets, but can live with that. They will keep you running if you want the miles and prove you can do them. I was sitting at the Kenworth dealer getting my truck fixed last week, which screws me up for milage, but nothing I can do with a breakdown. The good thing is, breakdown pay. They will always get you home when you want. When I go out from hometime, my dispatcher aways ask when my next home time is, and I haven't missed one yet, but might be late for this one because of the breakdown.

Dispatcher:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

Dry Van:

A trailer or truck that that requires no special attention, such as refrigeration, that hauls regular palletted, boxed, or floor-loaded freight. The most common type of trailer in trucking.

Lots of PRIMATES on this forum. They seem teal happy with their choice. Also, one of the highest cpm. They seem to be getting good miles also. I will cast the 1st vote for Prime.

"Teal happy"? Is that the same as happy as a bird? Or, more precisely, quacking happy? I bet teal are happy they're not in season anymore!

CPM:

Cents Per Mile

Drivers are often paid by the mile and it's given in cents per mile, or cpm.

My recruiter never answered her phone today when I called. Hopefully she is just trying to get back into the groove after the holidays.

My vote is Prime flatbed division! I'm from Oregon and had orientation in Salt Lake City. Then upgraded in Springfield.

It was really hard to decide how I wanted to get to Pittson. Drive or take a 24 hour bus ride on a greyhound. Ended up going with the greyhound since I was unsure how I'd get my car back home eventually.

Orientation is on the 4th of January.
