I'm another one of those late 50s career changing folks. I have many, many questions. But I'll start with this one. A lot is made in this forum about the DAC report. What exactly is a DAC report, and what goes in it?
Your DAC is a report of your driving record while you were with truck driving companies. It list accidents, tickets, etc.
Dave
A truck drivers DAC report will contain detailed information about their job history of the last 10 years as a CDL driver (as required by the DOT).
It may also contain your criminal history, drug test results, DOT infractions and accident history. The program is strictly voluntary from a company standpoint, but most of the medium-to-large carriers will participate.
Most trucking companies use DAC reports as part of their hiring and background check process. It is extremely important that drivers verify that the information contained in it is correct, and have it fixed if it's not.
A DAC report is a trucking report card. Lets see if I can explain.
There is a scales of 1-10 in severity for "offenses" you commit in a truck. 1 being minor and 10 major.
a 1 might be a light out and a 10 might be an accident where a car or your truck is towed away.
The way it works is lets say you get a ten point violation. It takes three years to come off your DAC.
Year one it is multiplied by 3 so ten really equals 30
year two it is multiplied by 2 so ten equals 20
year three its a 1 to 1 so 10 points is 10.
I hope this makes sense. If someone else wants to help out please do.
