Hey everyone, I'm brand new to TT, and looking to start CDL school locally in Southeast Missouri on Jan. 27 2017. I got medically retired out of the Army in 2013, and have rehabilitated and ready to get back to work. I'm looking for advice on companies, pay, home time, etc. I have spent many hours researching different areas, but all the sites are the same, when it comes to drawing you in, but if you review them you hear very different things. So I decided to go to some subject matter experts, and hear what you all have to say. Thank you in advance for any light you can shed for me.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

OOS:

And ignore all the stuff you read on reviews. It is all written by a bunch of losers who couldn't handle the career and lashed out at the trucking companies that were trying their best to get those folks in a new career.

Thank so everyone, the links you've provided have restored my faith, and I'm more excited than ever to get started in this career field. I'm going to call recruiters tomorrow for Hogan and CRST because both of those companies have good military benefits starting out, and offer more of what I am looking for. Thanks again. Hey Scout, definitely look into Schneider, Swift, Prime, TMC, and Roehl. These are just some off the top of my head - all great places to go and all of them are very much vet friendly.
