I drove a regional account for Swift where I was out for 5 days then got home for most of a weekend. Rinse, repeat. I live in the truck. That's what made that OTR.
Usually refers to a driver hauling freight within one particular region of the country. You might be in the "Southeast Regional Division" or "Midwest Regional". Regional route drivers often get home on the weekends which is one of the main appeals for this type of route.
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
Is regional classified as otr experience?
Yes indeed. As long as you're driving an 18 wheeler, you're staying away from home for days at a time, and you're crossing state lines then anyone would consider that "OTR Experience". Some companies that want OTR experience do not consider local driving as driving experience because you're home every night and often times you won't cross state lines. If they specifically want OTR experience then they want people who have already lived the travelling lifestyle and know how to manage life on the road.
