OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

Welcome Eli. We focus on helping new drivers get a start in the industry so that's outside of our range of topics I'm afraid. If we have some mechanics that would like to weigh in with some pointers that would be great but I think you'll find a lot better luck with places that specialize in that sort of thing.

If all you have is $10k you are nowhere near ready to buy a truck. You want to have $20k in addition to that or Murphy will move into the truck until it breaks and then will follow you home.

You cant get a running 379 for $20,000. With an old truck you have to be sure you can find a company that will lease ypu on as most want trucks that ate 10 yeats old and newer. If you must buy a cheap truck get a columbia with a 12.7 or a 14 liter detroit. That is the best bang for the buck. Most 14 liters have been by- passed already as it is easy to do. Lots of them around for 15 to 25 thousand and almost anyone can work on them

Why in the world, other than looks, would you want a non-aerodynamic tractor that will get about 4.5-6 mpg instead of a newer aerodynamic truck, pushing 8-10 mpg? It's simple economics. Looks are nice, but they don't compete with math when it comes to $$$. My two cents.....

I won't get into much but a major portion of that decision depends on your mechanical aptitude.
