I'll say this about automation. I watched the USPS spend miilions of dollars on a new machine every few years that was supposed to eliminate jobs and increase productivity. Each one created jobs and numbers went down....including tripling the number of mechanics it took to fix the constant jams.
The world is all about technological advances and it always changes the markets. That is life. When they put in self serve registers I screamed "that is anti American putting people out of work". But anyone been to a pilot with them? Now they have one clerk running the register and one helping the self severe register.
When I was a kid the Russians were going to nuke us, Halleys comet was supposed to destroy the world, Y2K was going to plunge us into the worst depression of all time and send us all to starvation, and the Mayan and Nostradamus prophecies were predicting the end of the world by 2012. Hmm. Still here.
Technology advances but not as fast as they want to scare us into believing. Most of us remember records, 8 track tapes, cassettes and before MTV existed. The hoopla of " MTV will destroy the music industry and radio" was crazy. Queen sang "Radio someone still loves you" while others "Video killed the radio star". Uh that was 35 yes ago and we still have music and radio. We still have recording companies and agents etc.
Heck..anyone remember in 2000 when GM produced the electric car that was supposed to revolutionize the car industry? EV1? They were all rounded up and destroyed. And one of those self driven cars drove itself right into the designer knocking him on the ground at a presentation.
So you see. Its not that we don't care. It's that we have seen this thing so.many times. Industries change and adjust. For now I'm going to make money.
And BTW, every generation blames the one before but never thanks them. You should be thanking us for the texting language you use. Lol lmao etc...that was MY generation.
And people freaked then too because the " world wide web" put Prodigy. CompuServe, AOL, Quantum services, AppleLink, PClink all out of business. Are you going to revolt and demand those jobs back? No because new ones formed.
What about those video games you play?/do u care that Atari intellivision and commodore are gone so u can have your PS whatever number?
Technology advances. People and industries adjust.
