I went to DDS this morning to take the exams for my permit. I scored 94 on general knowledge and 100 on air brakes and combination vehicles.I must say that The High Road Online CDL Training Program was a tremendous help. I had studied and completed those sections before school started so it made school a breeze. We start on the practice range at noon today. Thanks Trucking Truth.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Combination Vehicle:

A vehicle with two separate parts - the power unit (tractor) and the trailer. Tractor-trailers are considered combination vehicles.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

Danny we started pre trip today. I already know I am assigned to the blue truck tomorrow. I don't know if our classes will be combined so look for me. I am the only old guy in the class. But younger than the instructor. :)

Today was clown soup on the backing range. The instructor said the cones are going to start running when they see us coming. After lunch no one in my class killed a single cone.

CONGRATS on getting your permit....And killing "Schneider eggs" is just part of learning to operate a truck on the driving range...So don't feel to bad about hittin' an egg...
