So dedicated means from one place to another and back right? Do they give you time off between loads?
Not really; Dedicated to one customer; like Walmart, Target, Firestone, GeorgiaPacific, Church & Dwight, Amazon, etc.
Search on my thread; Walmart Dedicated (search bar in upper left corner, top of page). Many Dedicated Accounts have 1-2 days off per 7 day week. The trade off is you must live in close proximity to the domicile DC to take full advantage of this.
Driving While Intoxicated
Dedicated accounts are a set of company trucks and drivers that are contracted out to another company. Walmart, or in my case Georgia Pacific contracts with Swift to provide trucks with drivers to move freight for them. But the drivers are paid by Swift, and Swift handles truck maintenance.
The "there and back" operation is called shuttle. Most of the time shuttle drivers drive the same route every day in a slip-seat day cab , and get to go home at the end of their shift. One problem is the drivers must live near a shuttle terminal.
A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.
A tractor which does not have a sleeper berth attached to it. Normally used for local routes where drivers go home every night.

Matt, dedicated means that you are a driver who concentrates on serving one customer in particular. Like maybe Wal-Mart or Target. It doesn't mean that you will go "from one place to another and back."
I am a dedicated driver for SAPA, the world's largest supplier of aluminum extrusions. I still run over the road , but all my loads are done for them.
And G-Town is correct as why I mentioned Swift. They are very large and therefore have a ton of opportunities available to their drivers. Many of those opportunities are not even advertised as they prefer to move their current drivers who are showing promise into those positions.

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
