Trucker Tracker In Beta - Try It Out!

Ok so far it's working pretty well. I got up this morning and expected to see more people on there but there were only 10 and I was like "Wait a minute...." Well, turns out I had the number of drivers listed limited to 10 for testing purposes so I cleared that. As of right now there are 16 on there. So far so good! I'm going to be tinkering with it this morning to spruce it up a bit. Everyone keep giving suggestions for names and features and we'll see if we can boil down a good list.

Now we need a program that will live update our locations

That is easily possible but you would have to keep your browser open for it to update. You can't build this so that it runs in the background without the browser open. Just for the time being I'm going to leave it like it is where you have to press the button to update but I can easily eliminate that and just let it update every so often whenever the page is open.

Can't say positively but I'm pretty sure all the last updated times are the same as when I updated my location earlier today

All of the times seem to be updating fine. You have to refresh the page to get them to update. That is also something I could do automatically without making you refresh the page. I'm also going to leave this as it is temporarily but I expect very soon I'll have it update itself continuously as you're watching it.

Also the idea of destination is great as well to see who we might be crossing paths with as we go

I'm going to look into this feature this morning. I know I can figure out if there's an intersection pretty easily based on everyone's current coordinates and destination coordinates but I don't think the mapping system will allow for it based on your actual driving route. But let me see what I can drum up because I agree - it would be awesome to know if you're crossing paths with someone.

Ok, I've created a Google Moderator page for ideas. Here's the link:

Tracker App Suggestion Page

Here's how that moderator page works. Everyone can submit ideas and everyone can vote on the ideas that are already presented. I put some up there myself to get things rolling. So read through the current suggestions and for each one you can:

1) Click on the check mark (on the right hand side of that page) to vote yes

2) Click on the "X" to vote no

3) Don't click on anything if you don't have an opinion on a certain feature

4) Enter a comment about any suggestions

If you have an idea but you don't see it listed go ahead and submit one and we'll all vote on it.

I encourage everyone to participate in this! Let me know if there are any problems casting votes or submitting suggestions.

Ok, for now I have it setup where it shows how far you are from the other drivers and I've ordered the list from nearest to farthest. At some point in the near future you'll be able to sort the list by name, distance, or "people I'm following" first - things like that.

I'm stuck in Reserve, LA. Freight is slow for us down here and I knew when I saw I was heading down here I'd be sitting a little bit. Only been 20 hours so far, only my 2nd time sitting longer than 11-12 hours waiting for a load assignment.

On the issue of the name for the app we should call it... "Beacons of Truth Tracker." lol.

I had refreshed the page but times did not update. I logged on today, refreshed the page, and still showed only 5 drivers with the same update times as yesterday. I had not updated my own location since I have not moved. I then updated my location and everything was still the same. So I refreshed again and everything updated properly

So just so everyone knows you need to update your own location and then refresh in order to see everyone's last updates. This is on an iPad.

I'm on some home time right now, but decided to log on and discovered this new feature - Hey this is really cool! But Brett, I'm afraid this is gonna cost me some money. Daniel B is gonna be hunting me down for that dinner with tea that I promised him! As long as I had a little mystery about myself and my whereabouts everything was cool, but now I can't hide. Oh well, I still like the app and can see it has great potential. I guess I can hide by not updating my location, but I wouldn't do that, I've been really looking forward to meeting some of the great folks on here. I'll probably heading out from here on Tuesday or Wednesday and will be updating my location as I move around.
