I appreciate all your work with this Brett. One day, we will eat dinner with tea!

That would be fantastic!

This has been a fun little app to put together. I'm enjoying it. I'm just not sure what features I should add to it. Any ideas? I have to look into the routing thing to see if it's feasible to let people enter their destination so we can see who will be crossing paths. That would probably be pretty awesome.

I'm going to be night driving for half the night today. Let me think about this and I'll get back to you tomorrow. I'm sure I can think of something.

Brett, is there way that the app could list the town and state that each person is in? Example, I just updated my location in New Orleans, LA. Is there a way I could click on my name and it would show New Orleans, LA?

If the routing were to show up on the map it may get pretty congested, especially as more and more drivers become involved.

I did notice there is a bit of unused space in the box where names are listed in the grid. Maybe if we entered our destination is could be listed in a box beside our name? Or an even simpler solution maybe we could enter our direction of travel and list that?

Like a pop up box that had choices such as

Would you like to enter your direction of travel?

East bound.

West bound.

North bound.

South bound.

No thanks.

And then it could list Darren South Bound where the name is now.

Since it updates every time a page is loaded now the popup could become annoying, so you would have to work around that.

This way if I see Old School is in Columbus OH I would know which direction he is headed and if we might be getting close to each other.

I'm just spit balling here, so take it for what it's worth confused.gif

Or maybe if we click on our own name in the grid having a popup to enter destination or direction of travel that would then be inserted in the grid?

I have an idea. When you update your location you can click on other drivers and it shows you who they are. How about having the option to click on their number, then click on their name to contact them? Either email or message? That way if your close to each other, you can contact them

Thanks for all of the great suggestions everyone! I love getting feedback like that because I don't claim to know what people will like or dislike. I can build anything you want. The hard part for me is knowing what people want.

So the main things everyone seem interested in are knowing where people are going, knowing if someone is going to cross paths with you, and being able to send messages - all of which are feasible.

Messaging is the simplest so we'll start with that - I'll configure a way that you can click on someone's name and send them a message. It will be an email, just like here in the forum. No problem there.

Now the routing options are a bit more complex so let me know what you guys and gals think. We can do this a couple of ways:

1) Fast & Simple - Woody mentioned being able to enter a direction of travel - North, South, East, West. The good: it would be quick and easy for you guys to enter. The bad: I wouldn't really be able to tell anyone if their path is crossing someone else's.

2) More complex but accurate - I could have you guys enter your destination (city & state) and a date. Actually I could just let you enter a state as a destination. It wouldn't be quite as accurate, but that way you wouldn't have to type in a city name. But once I know where you're going and when you'll get there I can calculate to see if your path is crossing anyone else's path and notify you. I would need a date of arrival so I know if the routing is current or outdated.

Now the type of calculation I'll be doing is "as the crow flies". It won't be your actual route on the Interstates so I can't tell you exactly where you'll be crossing. But I will know that your paths are going to cross and you'll be able to figure out where and when pretty easily.

I think entering just the state you're going to would suffice for most cases and would save you guys the trouble of having to type. I know a lot of people are on phones and typing is a pain. But let me know your opinions on this - city & state or just state.

I'll get to work on this now and I'll give you updates once I have something.
