Phoenix, if you get nervous by the people around you stop and let them pass if they can....if they are nasty then Set your brakes. They can't move around you. They will get the message to wait. Many of the older guys will wave you to be patient and go slow. They remember how hard it is at first. . Take your time. and hit the stopwatch o. Your phone. You'd be surprised that what you think is a half hour is really only a few stressful minutes.

Thanks for the insight. They're one of the schools I applied to the other day. My concern being if I'd get some quality training but also if in the future I applied elsewhere after having gotten my driving experience with them how I might be perceived by a potential employer. I want to learn. I want to drive. I want to work.

Tim,...put you mind at ease. If you are accepted at Swift, you will get quality schooling and training. If you learn how to be a top performer; drive safely and execute your job efficiently, that is all that matters to anyone potentially hiring you in the future.

So I went into the shipping office at a Wal-Mart dc where I was picking up a load. She asked who I drive for then asked what trailer I was picking up. I answered both questions and she proceeded to look through a stack of bills looking for the ones for that load. She couldn't find them. After looking several times and looking to the pick up number on the computer, she finds the bills. She looked at them and said but that's Werner. I said correct. She looked at me and said why did I think you drove for Swift? Lol shocked.png

How insulting! rofl-1.gifrofl-2.gif

Are you running store loads for that DC? Usually outbound loads are destined for stores or SAM's Club.

no, it was a dc to dc run for them.

Also, just in case there are some who didn't realize, I didn't really feel insulted. Amused, yes, confused as to how she heard swift when I said Werner.

Interesting; I have done maybe 2 shuttle runs from DC to DC the entire time I have been assigned to the Walmart account. Most of the time if I am dispatched to another DC I am delivering a backhaul, then I run 1-2 days of store loads for that DC (usually Johnstown NY) before returning back to Gordon DC7030.

Cool.

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

I'm not on a Wal-Mart account, I'm lower 48. Almost every load I've ever done for Wal-Mart is dc to dc. There was one over a year ago near Christmas where I delivered to a store, but only that one.

I know,...just trying to point out that I don't usually get an assignment like that probably because I am Dedicated to store runs.

Sorry if I insulted you, G-town. I HAVE been in that guy's shoes. I have entertained a whole group of truckers for about 30 mins doing a blindside 45. Heck, I have entertained groups of truckers on more than 1 occasion doing blind side 45s. Probably why I hate TAs so much. Sometimes it is just nice to have the shoe on the other foot. IF the individual was with a trainer, than the trainer should of got their lazy butt out and spotted. Anyhow, like I said, If the individual would of GOAL'd, I would of gladly got out and asked if they wanted assistance. But that was not the case. As far as it being a Swift guy it doesn't much matter that it was. As it is always said, doesn't matter whose name is on the door. It just happened to be a Swift truck. The mention of Swift was what sparked the recollection. I have nothing against Swift.
