I also just got excepted to Prime. I am super excited and super nervous. I'm hoping to start the 20th but may have to postpone to the 27th due to finances. I am curious about getting my CDL permit before I go but my recruiter told me I should wait. Hhhmmmm????

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Congrats to you ladies! I'm Otr with hubby who's been a driver on and off for 15 years. Trying to decide if I should go for my CDL and we can team drive awhile. It's been nice being with him after a year of barely seeing each other, but I'm not sure the roads a place for me, yet. The jury is still out. I do see a hell of a lot more women out here than in previous years of being out with him and kudos to ya'll! Good luck with everything I pray for your safety. Take care

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

Good luck ladies! I drive for Prime and I LOVE them! I don't see myself going to any other company for a long time, and they really are a wonderful company to work for.

I am also headed to prime but not until march 6th. Looking forward to hearing how things go for you ladies.

Lin diesel I was originally told I would Be going to the Salt Lake location since I am in CA but they changed it to Springfield yesterday. I was ok with it since it would save me money up front since I can take the permit and DOT physical at the terminal instead of getting it on my own here. The bus ride is just going to be rough lol.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

If you're going to Springfield to train then you have to get your permit there. It's a Missouri law, not a Prime policy. They just changed it at the beginning of last year.
