The driver records the amount of time spent driving, on-duty not driving, in the sleeper berth, or off duty. The enforcement of the Hours Of Service Rules (HOS) are based upon the entries put in a driver's logbook.

Understanding how the hours of service works is a good start. Also, look into how the 8-hour split works. Once you got that down, go about your day as quickly as possible. No more than a 30 minute break or a 10 hour break. It increases your chances of an early delivery, repower, more miles, and not having to drive late at night.
