Hey all, been awhile since I've been here.. First off, Hello to those I haven't seen here before.. Welcome and good luck on your new journey.. Best place to start is here.. Brett is awesome.

Anyways,

for the veteran drivers here, what steps would you recommend for someone who got a citation in a non-commercial vehicle?

here's the scoop, the truck i drive for work is not a class A vehicle (class C vehicle) (though i have a class A as you would know)

driving through a town, I was watching everyone around me and missed a stop sign (the guy ahead of me missed it too)... officer saw, pulled me over and wrote me a citation.

He said my best bet would be to write a written deceleration to the court pay my bail and wait to see if I get a not guilty verdict.. He also recommended not pleading guilty as It could hurt my Class A..... This is for California by the way... I just wanted to see if anyone else had a recommendation that would help me out.. The typical fine is $150 and 1 point to my lic.. (or 1.5 points with a class A)

If this is your first one....it won't kill ya...your halo will be a little tarnished. In CA its not surprising to have atleast 1 ticket...I would send in my $$$, and see what they do with it. By sending in the money, it satisfies the court...And by NOT checking the "I plead guilty" box, maybe they won't put it on your record...its worth a trysmile.gif

Hi star :)

Yea thats what I was planning, its a 50/50 shot.. If they send it back then I have an extra bit of dough that I wouldn't have...... Just want to cover myself in all directions...

I did the exact same thing; police office pulled me over for rolling through a stop sign, in my own vehicle. This was a week or two before I sat my test. I had a lawyer represent me. The charge was downgraded to double parking and causing an obstruction which resulted in no points and a $140 fine.

Almost everyone with a CDL that gets a ticket tries to get it changed to a fine with no points. You should be able to do that. You can try contacting the District Attorney and see if he'll change it to a fine but no points. I mean, giving you points doesn't help anyone. They want the money.

I've gotten out of state tickets before and I was able to call the D/A, make a plea, pay the fine, and never even have to show up for court.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

That's not a bad Idea... may give it a shot.. Worth looking in to..

It posts like this that make me remember why I came here. I haven't gotten a citation yet, but I do drive through Indiana often which I hear is bad for us. At least now, I know where to turn with my questions.

This forum is full of info, all you need to do is search or ask about something... This place helped me a lot last year as I was going through my beginning phase of being a truck driver..

I'm starting School next month, But before I invest I need to check my National driving record. I honestly don't know if I've had 3 DWI's. Does anyone know Who the companies use to check your record and If I can access that site? Or any site that will provide my driving record in multiple states. The sites I have checked only go back 7-10 years. I would hate to invest $4000 to find out I can't get a job.

Not sure who they use, my guess is DMV..... When I went out with Swift, they only required a 10yr record.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

DMV:

Department of Motor Vehicles, Bureau of Motor Vehicles

The state agency that handles everything related to your driver's licences, including testing, issuance, transfers, and revocation.
