Just wanted to update you all on this...
So I called the court in the county I got the citation in (Napa County, California) anyways,
The clerk had told me that a new law had been passed in CA (not sure of any other states) that any driver with a Class A (Commercial Lic) driving a NON commercial vehicle (such as personal or work) and is issued a ticket/citation will not be penalized as a commercial driver.
so in other words, because the vehicle i was driving was a class C vehicle (though it was a truck and i have a class A) I am able to do traffic school, pay the fine and not have any points on my record.... (which I was worried about since points are a big deal for us commercial drivers)
Had I been driving a commercial vehicle, I would not be eligible for traffic school and would have points on my record.
Wow, that's great news for you! Rather an odd law though, eh? I guess they figured there are too many CDL holders getting tickets in personal vehicles and the state isn't able to collect a fee for having them attend driving school. That's all I can figure.
But whatever. As long as there aren't any points going on your license that's great!

I still haven't found anything on that on CA dmv site.. Guess I'll keep looking, and they gave me tell Jan 2 to get the funds for the fines... Pretty easy if I don't say so my self...

Good Update!
Many states have the same law. I will say this. It is worth going to your state DMV website and checking out the driving laws for both commercial and non-commercial. Know the laws will help you in situations like this.
ATA complained about similar type issues back in 2009. They stated that personal vehicle issues other than DUI/DWI and the like, that carried over to the class A in points and suspensions created a double jeopardy of sorts with the FMCSA laws. Many states have gone back and looked at their laws.
Glad to hear that it has worked out for you.
The CSA is a Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) initiative to improve large truck and bus safety and ultimately reduce crashes, injuries, and fatalities that are related to commercial motor vehicle
The FMCSA was established within the Department of Transportation on January 1, 2000. Their primary mission is to prevent commercial motor vehicle-related fatalities and injuries.

David I'm not sure of the laws in Ca the past year, but before that I can give you history. Prior to 2006 the law you are saying they gave you existed. However in 2006 it was changed to exclude CDL holders period. I taught traffic school for 6 years out there. A lot of business was lost to the traffic schools. Mine actually went out of business due to lack of students. I never agreed with the law, but then again I disagree with several things Ca does. IF they changed it back that is great. The courts always still had the discretion to still allow it, which may be what happened in your case. Either way your good since the court approved it. I would ensure it's in writing or I at least have the name of the clerk who approved it.

Pj, I'm looking at it as a win... City gets the $$ and I don't get 1.5 points on my record.... I'll be starting the schooling after the holiday.. Get it out of the way early.

Yup...they only go back so far. The companies you may want to dodge are the ones who ask if you have EVER had a DUII....but I guess you can go to the police and ask them to run you on NCI and LEDS...that should get you your record for everything everywhere...It did when I was an officer...
