Lastly, Happy Birthday. I will be 50 on that day. I don't believe one should even think of leasing or owning until you have at least 5 years as a company driver. There are companies that can have you running the western states. Good luck.

Don't let the top line of the settlement sucker you in. Yes, there is a lot more revenue for a lease operator, but a WHOLE HELL OF A LOT MORE EXPENSES. In all actuality, lease operators make the same as company drivers. (Maybe a bit more, but not much)
Take the time to get your CDL , put in atleast a year of company driving, then decide. You have so much to learn. How to drive efficiently (how to boost your mpg) and where the freight lanes are, are just 2 of the things you need to learn.

So my 21st birthday is fast approaching (2-28) and I am torn between knight or prime (mabey wil-trans), I will be going with company sponsored CDL training, and after a year or two will like to lease a truck, does anybody have any recommendations? I live in southern California (near Fontana) and things I'm looking for is if I do lease a truck in the future which company can keep me regional yet profitable running western states. I have a young family and would like to be a regional driver but I realise as a rookie you will more than likely have to go OTR for the first year.

Regional:
Regional Route
Usually refers to a driver hauling freight within one particular region of the country. You might be in the "Southeast Regional Division" or "Midwest Regional". Regional route drivers often get home on the weekends which is one of the main appeals for this type of route.
OTR:
Over The Road
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
