There's tons of info here on Prime training , but in Springfield. I don't recall seeing any threads from SLC.
This is what I know. I hope to start my training there in the next 3-4 weeks. You must obtain a Utah CDL Permit before they can set your orientation date, at least that's what they told me. everything should be the same as Springfield except there first week. since you will have your CDL permit, you wont have to take all the class work. you should still be learning how to actually perform a pre-trip, you will still have medical to do, and then once you get all that you should get a trainer that will take you out on the pad for maybe a day, maybe more or less to see how you do driving the truck, maybe even out on I-15/I-80. Then you will start your PSD training for 10k miles.
The only thing I'm awaiting to hear back now on is if I have to go to Springfield for the sleep apnea test, or if the test can be done in SLC. I have also heard that there are some really good trainers out there in SLC, not saying there aren't any at the other locations, just what I heard.
I chose Utah for a couple of reasons, might as well train in some of the harshest conditions, or as harsh as I can get them when I'm with a trainer, instead of learning this stuff on my own later. Plus I am moving back to SLC so my home address will be there.
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
A physical disorder in which you have pauses in your breathing, or take shallow breaths, during sleep. These pauses can last anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes. Normal breathing will usually resume, sometimes with a loud choking sound or snort.
In obstructive sleep apnea, your airways become blocked or collapse during sleep, causing the pauses and shallow breathing.
It is a chronic condition that will require ongoing management. It affects about 18 million people in the U.S.
Prime Inc has a CDL training program and the first phase is referred to as PSD. You'll get your permit and then 10,000 miles of on the road instruction.
Prime’s PSD begins with you obtaining your CDL permit. Then you’ll go on the road with a certified CDL instructor for no less than 75 hours of one-on-one behind the wheel training. After training, you’ll return to Prime’s corporate headquarters in Springfield, Missouri, for final CDL state testing and your CDL license.
Thanks for the info, I was told that I would be attending training in SLC, since I am in Ca. Studying for permit and pretrip. Glad to hear they you need your permit before attending training in SLC, that takes some of the pressure off, so I can right into the driving phase.
