I won't tell you not to lease (but I'd never do it) but if you have credit issues already and are having trouble keeping up with bills now then I would definitely recommend waiting. I would suggest getting caught up on all your bills and actually building up a 6 month cushion at minimum before starting a lease. If you fall behind now it just bills but if you're in the lease and fall behind because of weather, breakdown or anything else then it's bills you're truck and everything.

Leasing is definitely a future plan. We're not behind on any current bills, it's just starting to get really tight as i only had about a two month cushion, and another source of income disappeared prematurely. We're at the point where we need a decent pay NEXT week or we won't have enough for necessities.
I can't deny i used to be very irresponsible financially... or just plain stupid as it was never intentional... but I've been working hard to make good on past debts. I made 'em; I'll pay 'em. And i learned the hard way to be careful and smarter. If leasing doesn't make sense when we're ready, then we'll find another way to succeed.
A 6 month (minimum) cushion is good advice, thank you.
Gotta go for now, shop couldn't fix us and we're heading out with an eye on the warning lights.
Matt, I'll come back later to answer properly, but yes, they're working to resolve things.

Phoenix I find it rather ironic that you considered quitting after 1 month with Interstate , yet you think you might want to lease at some point?
No offense...but if you were leasing and this (what you described in your post) were to happen, not only are you making very little money but you have a monkey of a truck payment, the size of a mortgage jumping "up and down" every month, eating into your income and savings. It happens!
Trucking company leases are stacked to heavily favor the carrier...very few people seem to realize this or believe it. They make more money per mile...you take-on expodentially more risk and are tethered to them for all of your loads. Interesting business model. To think you have more control is perhaps fantasy. Unless you can run under your own authority, I'd run from company lease agreements and focus on being a truly top performing company team. Let your employer shoulder the burden of asset risk...while you collect fat paychecks.
So...please try to read every thread we have on here about leasing before you seriously consider it. Search on it using the search bar in the upper left hand corner of the page.
Good luck with Interstate and safe travels.

That is gonna be a real nice house in most parts of the Country. Most Company Leases are between $500-$700 per WEEK!!!!!
I'm happy to see your Ops manager is getting you squared away. Interstate has always been good at getting me taken care of when things go kaput. The last time, I got stuck in SLC for 5 days. They paid for a (really decent) hotel, and I ended up getting 6 days of breakdown pay because they eventually gave up waiting for the KW shop in West Valley to fix my truck (they were saying it would be "at least another week") and rented me a car to drive all my stuff to the French Camp yard to pick up a different truck. They also gave me a Comcheck for $150 to cover gas for the rental and a hotel for the night en route to French Camp.
My advice is to stick it out at least we'll into spring, and see if your miles don't improve with the weather. Most of this winter my miles have been pretty bluh because of weather and road closures, but this last month I ended up turning almost 12000 miles, so the miles are definitely there.
Good luck!

On tractor trailers, and APU is a small diesel engine that powers a heat and air conditioning unit while charging the truck's main batteries at the same time. This allows the driver to remain comfortable in the cab and have access to electric power without running the main truck engine.
Having an APU helps save money in fuel costs and saves wear and tear on the main engine, though they tend to be expensive to install and maintain. Therefore only a very small percentage of the trucks on the road today come equipped with an APU.

It was the original hope, yes, but obviously I'd wait to see if it works out there first. Besides, i am not financially prepared to take on that responsibility yet. I'm trying to set myself up for the future, and i don't know that I'm going to lease for sure. I've done a lot of reading on this site and yes, i am aware it's not a great option. I wouldn't have even mentioned it, but i was asked my reasons for switching, and that was in the mix. Of course leases are weighed heavily for the carriers, but there are those who make it work for them, and i will do my utmost to make it work for us... in my head and on paper first, because if i can't do it there, I'm not gonna do it in reality.
I just want to get ahead in this life... I've never had the opportunity to be in business for myself before this, yet I've always wanted to be...
But this isn't what this thread was supposed to be about, and it's against everything you amazing, intelligent guys try to teach us.
Fatsquatch... I'm trying. I feel more hopeful after talking to Regan. He sounds like he really does care, and that matters so much!
Break is over... take care y'all!

I would think a Company Husband and Wife Team could easily gross 6-8K per month once they become established with a decent Carrier. In my world, that is nothing to sneeze at!
