Hey everyone!

I'm graduating CDL school on Friday and just scheduled a phone interview for this account.

It's based out of Leesport, PA hauling reefer for Schwan's. Pays $990/week and is home most days with Friday and Saturday off. It's all driver unload with 2-3 stops per load.

Aside from driver unload (which really isn't too big of a deal to me), it seems too good to be true. Does anyone know if this is a new account? Anyone with experience on it that can shed some light?

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Reefer:

A refrigerated trailer.

Do you know what kind of places you will be delivering to?

Individual Schwans retail stores as far as I know. Small stores with probably equally small parking lots.

I wonder if its like the dollar General accounts I hear about. I personally never seen a schwans retail store. So I wouldn't know. I am curious as what this is and if you do choose it please keep us posted on how it turns out

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

I don't think Schwans has their own Stores. I believe they are a frozen foods Manufacturer/ Distributor. I know they have a Home Delivery division. I believe they also deliver to Supermarkets, Restaurants, etc. You also may be delivering from their production facilities to their DC's. 2-3 stops per day sounds like bigger deliveries than small retail stores.

Tractor, I know they have those small straight trucks that do that kind of local delivery. The recruiter didn't seem to know too many details of the account, but moving from production facilities to DCs does make a lot of sense.

Matt, If I go to this account I'll be sure to come back here and let every know what it's all about.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.
