Go Woody GO! Outstanding my man! Keep your eyes on the prize, head out of the clouds and wheels on solid ground. You'll do great. I'm certain of it. I totally feel you on getting an opportunity to go to work and earn a good living again after being unemployed. When I got cleared for solo qual and back in a truck after 6 months of unemployment I about kissed the road tester for the company I'm with now. If I'd have been out a job for a whole year, I might have. LOL.
Yup, it's actually been 14 months as of yesterday. Granted I had decided to take some time and figure out what I wanted to do since I knew I wanted to get out of retail. But while on unemployment you have to fill out 3 work searches each week. I even applied to places that were well below my skill level (most online) and never received a SINGLE phone call for an interview!
I was really surprised when my wife finally said she was ok with me going into trucking. I'm sure me being around the house for a year had something to do with that LOL. We have been married 23 years and I have talked about it many times, but the kids are finally old enough for me to hit the road

After much debate, and waiting for Knight's school to open in Indy, I have decided to go ahead and start school this Monday!
I will try my best to do a detailed log in the training forum. The first week is gonna be looooooong since it is preparing for the permit which I already have. I really did not expect to attend a private school, but I met with them Tuesday for two hours and liked what I was seeing. I have intended to go to Knight for a couple of months, and am still leaning their direction. But I am giving a hard look at a couple other companies. I gotta say its nice getting these pre-hires and having all the interest in me after being unemployed for a year without any decent leads lol.
Gotta go get more stuff to prepare for school. More later.
And a BIG thanks to Brett and everyone else here on TT. I would not be where I am right now or NEARLY as ready if it had not been for all the help from this site.

Pre-hire:
What Exactly Is A Pre-Hire Letter?
Pre-hire letters are acceptance letters from trucking companies to students, or even potential students, to verify placement. The trucking companies are saying in writing that the student, or potential student, appears to meet the company's minimum hiring requirements and is welcome to attend their orientation at the company’s expense once he or she graduates from truck driving school and has their CDL in hand.
We have an excellent article that will help you Understand The Pre-Hire Process.
A Pre-Hire Letter Is Not A Guarantee Of Employment
The people that receive a pre-hire letter are people who meet the company's minimum hiring requirements, but it is not an employment contract. It is an invitation to orientation, and the orientation itself is a prerequisite to employment.
During the orientation you will get a physical, drug screen, and background check done. These and other qualifications must be met before someone in orientation is officially hired.
