I was thinking about going to swift vs prime and to do with the sleep study before I go.
Each company is different. Regardless of where you go, call and ask them about the model machine you would need. That way you can buy the correct one before you go rather than buying two. Also if you have diagnosed apnea, they will want 30 days of recording at 70% use. What is the point of doing it if they make you buy another $600 machine? So best to call them and ask about it and buy the correct machine from the start.
I'm going to Prime out in Salt Lake for school. Since they require your permit before starting orientation, I was able to get a 2 year card. What Prime will do is during my 10k (PSD) phase is have me stop in MO and do the sleep study. Tats what the recruiters told me.
As soon as you take the sleep study it invalidates your med card. You then go for a new physical and the card is issued based on your diagnosis. Prime will wait until after your PSD and you get your CDL. If you don't pass the test, you don't get hired so no reason to take the sleep study
Rainy,
Yeah, I have no idea. I called the recruiter before I got to Salt Lake because of that very reason. I told them I'm most likely going to have to take the sleep apnea test. I asked if that was given in Salt Lake. The recruits said no I would do it during PSD. That's all the info I have on it. Maybe she was confused, or just busy with other recruits stuff.
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
A physical disorder in which you have pauses in your breathing, or take shallow breaths, during sleep. These pauses can last anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes. Normal breathing will usually resume, sometimes with a loud choking sound or snort.
In obstructive sleep apnea, your airways become blocked or collapse during sleep, causing the pauses and shallow breathing.
It is a chronic condition that will require ongoing management. It affects about 18 million people in the U.S.
Prime Inc has a CDL training program and the first phase is referred to as PSD. You'll get your permit and then 10,000 miles of on the road instruction.
Prime’s PSD begins with you obtaining your CDL permit. Then you’ll go on the road with a certified CDL instructor for no less than 75 hours of one-on-one behind the wheel training. After training, you’ll return to Prime’s corporate headquarters in Springfield, Missouri, for final CDL state testing and your CDL license.
I'll find you the phone number of the sleep study place in Sprimo. The machines would be the same.
Prime usually gives a two month med card. Once you test out and become an employee they have you set up the test. They don't test people until they know they have the CDL. It would be more money prime would be paying out and possibly not get back if the person failed.
