Looks like we will be hitting the academy at the same time then.
We have some similar experience. Although I never drove a city bus on the streets, I used to drive a school bus and worked dispatch, fueling, and washing for a company in Oregon.
Im coming back to trucking after being away since 09.
Good luck
My start date has been pushed back a week— by my own request. In getting things ready to go off to trucking school I had some dental work come up. Better to take care of it now than end up with a bad problem while I'm out OTR , so I am doing that (not fun, but necessary), and I'm grateful that my recruiter and Swift were willing to work with and accommodate this.
Oh well. On the bright side it means I have one more week to pack. On the less bright side, I'm losing teeth 31 and 32, but hopefully will feel a lot better once they're gone.
Thanks. When it comes to dental work, I need it. Given that I see you're in California, you're going to the Swift academy in Fontana? See you there.
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
Yes I'm going to Fontana. I'm coming from San Diego.
I am now less two teeth (numbers 31 and 32, the latter of which is a wisdom tooth (and yes, the other wisdom teeth are going to eventually have to come out too) than I was before, and feeling like giving myself that extra week before heading off to school was definitely the right choice. While I might be recovered enough by Monday/Tuesday to drive down to there, I lost just about three whole days of prep time and packing— Thursday to going to the dentist, Friday and most of Saturday to laying on the recliner on the couch asleep recuperating. I'm gonna need the time this coming week to get things together as well as I want to.
And I think I'm going to be on soft foods for the better part of a while, which puts a bit of a dent in my plans for eating.
Oh well. Most truck stops etc places have soup available, right? Either the better/decent kind, or at least somewhere I can microwave a bowl of soup from a can. Because soup and applesauce and some yogurt, that's pretty much all I can manage to eat until my gums heal.
Kianan, I am on the bus as I type this going to Orientation on the 3rd! Hopefully we will be able to meet.
As for today…
my agenda today entails going out, getting another pair of jeans (which will bring it so that I have five pairs of jeans total, plus two pairs of capris and one pair of shorts for Sundays), some more stuff, and just generally getting ready. And Jamba Juice. Because soft food etc etc.
I'm probably over-packing, but I'm also driving my own car to Fontana rather than taking the Greyhound. I'd rather have my car available, and it means I can put anything I end up not needing in the second duffel bag and such. Eventually once I get assigned my own truck and the ability to take the truck home for hometime, I'll have a friend drive my car home, but in the mean time I feel like I'm better off with my car available to me. I also have several friends in the general area (okay, well, Whittier isn't precisely the general area but it's closer than not) who have where that I can park my car if it becomes necessary to have it on private property.
I am taking my car as well, but only planning on having it up there during the academy. I took a Greyhound once and swore that was the last time as well lol.

Yeah. It's not even so much that the bus trip is bad— after all, I drove city buses for a while!— as that I really want to be able to have my car available to me.
We're responsible for our own meals, which means that ESPECIALLY with the new dietary restrictions that I have due to dental stuff, I want to be able to go pick and choose where I go to dinner each night. I want to be able to go to a store on Sunday when there's no class, without worrying about if it's somewhere that the motel's shuttle will take me, or getting back, or anything like that. All the little reasons that just make having my car available worth it.
When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

LOL... I had two fillings yesterday. (Still can't chew on that side!) But likewise, waiting another two+ months, and use up part of that precious 34 hours?... feh-GET't. I'm hoping to earn enough, someday, to replace one pulled last year.
We'll have fun driving for Thwifth !
