The current rate is out a week, home a day. Two weeks on the road minimum. Some regional gigs get you home on weekends for a minimum 34 hour reset, and if you get your dispatches lined up and done right you'll be home Friday night.
Usually refers to a driver hauling freight within one particular region of the country. You might be in the "Southeast Regional Division" or "Midwest Regional". Regional route drivers often get home on the weekends which is one of the main appeals for this type of route.
Check out Roehl. They have great hometime plans. Depends how much money you need to make, but a friend of mine is on the 14/7 plan currently. Out 14 days then home for a week, not a bad deal and he makes in the mid 40s. Roehl has several hometime options.
Check out my company, H. O. Wolding. They really work with you on how much you want to drive. You only want to drive 4 days a week, no problem. Just don't expect to make very much.
Knight advertises many home/drive plans.
Having driven "a decade ago", you know the concept, but maybe things have changed a bit. (Also, you'll need to go through an approved school all over again. Click on Becoming A Truck Driver to get updated on the process.)
Finally, a rule that hasn't changed: The more you stay home, the less you'll earn.
I can second Patrick's suggestion to look into H.O.Wolding. They are extremely accommodating about hometime. But, as others have mentioned, of course, if you are at home, you're not making any money.
My company has no problem starting someone out on a home every weekend Regional gig. That is how I started. When I decided to stay out longer I just let my DM know. Very simple. If you decide you want to stay out over a weekend every now and then, just let your DM know at the beginning of the week and they will run you over the weekend. It truly is painless to set your schedule with Wolding.

What are some of the best companies for getting home time? I left trucking over a decade ago for more stability but I miss driving. I just want to be home more than 8 to 10 hours before out again for a week
