A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.
Company truck schools and most private ones don't have the time to deal with any more Government red tape than they have to. Their business is running the school, not collecting government funds.
Don't be so sure of that Errol. The Feds throw Bazillions of tax dollars at Private " Career Colleges", particularly Medical related, due to shortages of workers in those fields. I'm sure they are doing the same with Truck Driving Schools, due to the " Truck Driver Shortage". I have come across people that have been through several different "Schools" all on Government Grants, (read....Your money and mine), and never spent a day on the job they were "Trained" to do. Many of these outfits have been busted over the years for mis use of these "Funds". Just my $.02.
I think you and I are thinking two different things. My point about red tape is about schools applying for and getting general subsidies/support directly from the govt., and you are taking about student financing where a student did all the work to get the money for school.

Susan, I would CYA. Take a pic of everything piled up in the drivers lounge. Take a screen shot of your attempts to contact said individual. I would send a QualComm message stating that she moved everything out into the Drivers lounge. You can not locate or able to contact her. You are continuing on to your receiver. Just CYA all around. That way there isn't any questions later.

I've tried til I'm blue in the face. This gal is both dangerous and clueless. I was hoping to have her back in Cedar Rapids today, but it looks like it will be Sunday or Monday instead. She barely speaks-- unless we are away from the truck and its not a trucking related topic. Stalls the truck in all kinds of inappropriate places, ignores road/traffic signs, refuses to drive much of the time, refuses to trip plan, conveniently disappears or goes to bed when its time to do tripsheets and scan them into transflow. Decides to shower AFTER our break is over and we NEED TO ROLL TO MAKE OUR APPOINTMENT. I told her next time, I WILL drive off and leave her if she does it again. Won't get up when we need to roll (my other half told me to just roll anyway and if she falls out of the upper bunk so be it), but I'm not that mean. Is oblivious to the need to manage her time on her elogs , has multiple errors on them but STILL hasn't called in to get those errors corrected. Last night I asked her again if she had called (because we can't even do minor edits ourselves ) she said no.. I asked her what she was waiting for.. *. crickets, * then told her.. oh well, I'm not telling you again, its YOUR LOGS and YOUR LOGBOOK VIOLATIONS. Oh the list goes much further. I've wasted way too much time with this one. I've not yelled, I've managed to stay calm, I have gone out of my way to try to make her feel welcome on my truck, but I'm done and so is she.

Operating While Intoxicated
The first thing i did was let my company know. They tried to call her too, and got no answer either so said for me to leave without her.
Turns out, she had decided trucking is not for her and didn't say anything because i was sleeping. She wasn't there when i looked for her because another driver took her to get something to eat and talked to her about her decision.
I was getting ready to leave and went back in to use the bathroom and she was sleeping in the lounge area. I said, hey, you got all your stuff.. she said she had wanted to tell me but i was asleep. She thanked me for helping her and said trucking wasn't working out for her, not her thing and she just wanted to go home. I told her it wasn't too late to change her mind, but trucking isn't for everyone and thats ok. She had already called her parents to drive down and pick her up. She lives in Michigan, about 3 hours from there. i wished her luck in whatever she does and left.
She's a little bitty gal and things like dropping a trailer, climbing in/out of the trailer, managing the doors, and landing gear when in a bind was a bit too much for her. She also saw the kinds of places we pickup and deliver at and how tight or complicated many of them are and wasn't feeling it.

Well, said trainee apparently moved her things out of the truck last night while I was sleeping and is nowhere to be found.
Funny, I helped her with her backing when we arrived here last night. I asked her what she wanted for dinner since nobody delivers to our south Chicago terminal. Of course this terminal is "closed" on weekends. . No staff or shop personnel around. All her stuff is piled up in drivers lounge area and she's not around.. won't answer phone or text.
I believe she's done the public a service by staying off the roads. Trucking isn't for everyone and there's no shame in that. She could have at the very least put her big girl panties on and said she was leaving.
Guess I'm gonna go find my loaded trailer and head to Green Bay here in a bit. Only 4 hrs up there and they allow overnight parking so no probs finding a sleeping spot either.
