My nephew went there a couple years ago and said good things too. He only left Stevens late last year to buy his own hotshot.
Hello Tim,
I am leaving for keenesburg this Friday for Stevens as well.
If you don't mind I had some questions.
What day of the week do you take the permit test?
Also are there a washer/dryer in the housing or a laundry mat?
I have had a really positive experience in this new adventure so far and wanted to share a quick note for others. Here in Keenesburg CO at Stevens company sponsored training the instructors are great. Knowledgeable, patient, and helpful. We got a good group of guys in our housing. If anyone is ever considering going here I recommend it. Thanks Brett and the others here at TT for the help going into this career. So far so good.
A Company-Sponsored Training Program is a school that is owned and operated by a trucking company.
The schooling often requires little or no money up front. Instead of paying up-front tuition you will sign an agreement to work for the company for a specified amount of time after graduation, usually around a year, at a slightly lower rate of pay in order to pay for the training.
If you choose to quit working for the company before your year is up, they will normally require you to pay back a prorated amount of money for the schooling. The amount you pay back will be comparable to what you would have paid if you went to an independently owned school.
Company-sponsored training can be an excellent way to get your career underway if you can't afford the tuition up front for private schooling.
Excellent! Always good to hear positives.
There is a laundramat, market and small cafe in town. About 1/2 mile from housing. Family Dollar and Shell gas station/ convenience just a bit further. Not much else. You'll take a van in the mornings and afternoons. Permit is taken on wednesday. The housing is duplex house, 3 bdrm, with bunk beds in each room. 2 bathrooms. Microwave, stove, and fridge.
