Salutations people of Truckingtruth.com! I am very interested in become a driver for Roehl, the only issue is I live 215miles away from the closest terminal located in GA. However, I do live near a drop yard just a few 40 miles away from my house. Does anyone know if that will effect the decision of them hiring me or not?

Also, will companies keep me in the same truck instead of switching off every few weeks etc. and would I have to install the stuff id need/want like a mini mini fridge.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

Hi! Most companies will let you take the truck home and park it at a nearby truckstop. So terminal proximity is not a concern. I live 130 miles from my terminal, but drop the trailer at the last customer then go home. Also major carriers like roehl usually don't switch you out of trucks often. Its called slip seating when you don't have a permanent truck and you switch it with other drivers. They might have it on dedicated accounts but for OTR you will most likely have your truck for awhile. I had my truck for 13 mos and just moved into a new one.

Someone with Roehl knowledge will come along and comment.

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

Distance from terminals are not an issue. Most companies will bus you out to their training facilities and you can take the truck and trailer home on your home time usually. Unless you get on Roehls 7/7 7/4 etc division, you'll stick with one truck and can install things within reason. I attended my orientation in little rock, AR and lived in Chattanooga, TN at the time
