My first couple of months OTR solo I didn't wanna do anything except sleep and get used to the new lifestyle. Now that I am more adjusted I added a Verizon Myfi to my phone plan. It is basically a wifi hotspot. It has unlimited data so I can always have wifi on my truck for my laptop or whatever else I choose to use. I think I can connect up to 10 devices to it at one time.
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

You will definitely have some long loading/unloading times in the reefer world. Stevens runs mostly refrigerated freight from what I've seen. Definitely see them lots at grocery recievers (grocers are often lengthy unloads).
When you first start and are getting acclimated to the OTR lifestyle, you are likely going to be exhausted all the time. It's a brutal number of work hours and your schedule is all over the place. You will likely find yourself sleeping while getting unloaded quite a bit. My adage when I first started was "sleep when you can." Because you don't know when your next chance might be. Sometimes the schedule gets so backwards you sleep 8 hours and wake up, and get a load that picks up in 18 hours. Then you have to drive 10+. Now you've been up 30 hours or so. Start stacking that kind of stuff on a 70 hour work week and it takes some getting used to.
That said, there will be times you can play games. Will it line up with the same times your friends play games? Sometimes. You won't be able to keep a raid schedule in warcraft.
My phones hotspot was fine for playing online games most of the time. Sometimes ping would get wonky, and some places it's not good enough to even be worth logging on. Competitive FPS games would probably have some issues. MMO's, not so much.
I run team now, so my schedule is a little different than when I was solo, but I have a really expensive laptop with a desktop gtx980 in it that can run all the games on ultra settings. I don't think I've pulled it out of the bag in the last two months. You probably won't play as much as you think you will.
I even bought a nintendo switch, thinking I would play it more since a lot of my downtime is on a moving truck and it's easier to just whip out and play. Zelda BOTW is one of the greatest games I've ever played, felt like I was a young kid playing the original on the nes when I was trying it out at the house. I haven't booted it once since I've been out on the road. I guess I could be playing instead of typing this, ha.
