Gladhand. We met at the Jurupa Terminal several months ago. You are a great guy. You have been through lots of ups and downs, but never gave up! Props to you my friend. I really appreciate your honesty and openness on this forum. Best of luck in your 2nd year. This year you can stick a chunk of cash in the bank instead of loan payments. "Live like nobody else, so you can live like nobody else". Some folks will know where that quote came from. I wish I would have learned it at your age. God bless!

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

That is the plan. Avoiding rent for 2 more years or even longer if I can sustain living like this. Dave Ramsey and minimalism are definitely two things I have been grateful to discover. Explore America for now and then I can explore the world!

Congrats on making it through that first year out there! A huge accomplishment for anyone, I don't care who you are.

You're a perfect example of the kind of people we hope will find us here at TruckingTruth when they're getting ready to begin their career, and then stick around for years after if we're lucky enough to have ya. You're genuine, you're giving this career everything you've got, you're very humble, you listen well, and you take pride in yourself and what you do.

We all face our own unique difficulties that first year because we all have different personalities and goals. And you've faced yours, and pushed through them, and had faith that if you stayed the course and kept pushing forward it would all pay off, and somehow it would all work out.

And it has. And that's always such a thrill for us to see, and something for you to be incredibly proud of.

We're fully aware that our message about having a positive attitude and committing yourself to this career and to your first company for one full year doesn't resonate with a lot of people. But we know that it resonates with the right people. Our simple strategy can be used a guidepost along the way, and a light at the end of the tunnel for those who are willing to make the commitments, endure the challenges, and find their way to the top positions in this industry.

Thank God you decided to return after almost pulling the plug. You'll tell that story for the rest of your life, and it will never cease to inspire people because every difficult path will have those moments, and everyone feels stronger and more confident when they know they're not the only ones who struggle sometimes.

Awesome job in seeing this through and best wishes for many great years to come! I have to admit, I sure hope you'll stick around here for a long time. You know as well as anyone that there are a lot of people who could really use the advice, the encouragement, and the insights they'll get from you and your experiences.

Awesome job!

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

Fantastic post!

I remember way back in the early days of your journey. Your honesty and determination in the face of adversity was inspiring. You can stand proud after sticking with it all.

Wishing you many more years of good fortune GH!

Thanks everyone, I have learned a lot this past year about myself and even the world in general. You get what you give out here. Most of my problems were self inflicted, which others like to use as a way to blame the company when it is their fault.

I learned from my last job that if you hate what you do then you need to do something to change it, everyday that I "work", I don't really feel like I am working now.

One of the best words of advice I ever got was instead of asking what kind of job you want, ask what kind of lifestyle you want instead.
