I think having your foot on the brake and having the range switch in high would be two ways to do it. I don't think I've stalled since I went solo, but several times I have come to a complete stop trying to find a gear, which I think would also be an automatic fail during an exam. It's turning a corner onto a hill with a load, that's what does it to me.

One of my examiners said they expect you to lose gears on your test. But they want to make sure you recover quickly.
