Details like how many and how long ago are important to help you. That information will help us steer you to a company that would give you a chance.

No, you can't hide that kind of information so honesty is best. Some companies won't consider you at all, some after a certain number of years, some no more than one, lifetime limits, etc.

As mentioned how many and when they were is key. I had 2 dui's 10 years ago. Most companies I have talked to want them to be at least 5 years old.

This policy varies somewhat from company to company; some accept one, some two, some no DUIs. Two is the upper limit across the board.

Two is a lot - but 10 years ago, may make you hirable, depending on what your driving/criminal history looks like since then.

As far as "expunge" goes - it may clear your driving record - but ANY TIME you've been arrested and printed, comes up on a criminal background, because a copy of those prints goes to NCIC (FBI) and that's FOREVER.

I know, because of dismissed charge from 28 years ago, that came up on a background when I tried to get a F.A.S.T. card - but was never questioned when I got my TWIC & HazMat.

Rick

HAZMAT:

Hazardous Materials

Explosive, flammable, poisonous or otherwise potentially dangerous cargo. Large amounts of especially hazardous cargo are required to be placarded under HAZMAT regulations

TWIC:

Transportation Worker Identification Credential

Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.

Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

I had a company consider picking me up, knowing my record. I asked if I was garuanteed, as long as you didn't falsify anything you should be ok. Where could i get a background that they use?

Pretty much EVERY APPLICATION we've seen in the industry asks for FELONY CONVICTIONS - not arrests.

So as long as you provide EXACTLY WHAT THEY ARE ASKING FOR - there's no falsification involved. If they come up with a charge that got dismissed - "hey, you asked for CONVICTIONS".

Same goes for driving convictions, charges and accidents. If they ask for accidents IN THE LAST 5 YEARS - that's what you give them. You could have been playing bumper cars on I-95 for fun, SIX YEARS AGO - but that's not what they ask for.

Answer HONESTLY AND CONCISELY - giving them EXACTLY WHAT THEY ASK FOR.

I had a bunch of stuff fall off my MVR , and stuff that should have not appeared, show up (all out the the "window of time").

I pull backgrounds (on myself) using a login for an attorneys office I work for. That's "barely legal" to do. And the stuff that shows up on my NCIC doesn't show there. But I do have a speeding ticket (less that 10 miles over) from central FL over a decade ago, that shows up on my criminal record pull for some reason (not arrested, got an attorney, got it "adjudication withheld").

And I'll give the same advice I always give - FIGHT EVERY TICKET. Get an attorney and FIGHT IT. The $100 for a ticket attorney, is way cheaper than the increase in insurance rates, or the inability to get a driving job for simply paying the citation...

Rick

MVR:

Motor Vehicle Record

An MVR is a report of your driving history, as reported from your state Department of Motor Vehicles. Information on this report may include Drivers License information, point history, violations, convictions, and license status on your driving record.
