And I want to ride my first century (100m) around October this year. So again my riding is a reflection of that...
I don't have to win but I gotta finish.
I dun did that
One of the best decisions I ever made on the road!
Nice!! I wish my phone would open the photos from the first page... I'll definitely look again later...
Last week I was blasting through a downhill in the middle of nowhere and scared a deer... And myself when it took off running.. I might have to get a go pro setup or something.
Daniel,
You use a bike that doesn't have gears? Also, the photos on the first page don't load for anyone.
Cwc,
50+ miles is pretty hardcore. You must be in very good shape.
I never wore that stuff as a mountain bike rider. I never went 50 miles either, but I doubt you're going anywhere near that yourself. :P
We're you averaging above 20mph on your mountain bike? If not it would be pretty hard to cover that much that much ground.

No my bike has gears. It also weighs south of 20lbs. I'm not in "trucker shape" My idea of bad shape for myself might be a bit different than others.
Before driving I would be on massive ships aircraft carriers.. Up and down stairs all day. Carring god knows how much in tools or whatever else. So it's not that I've "never had it" as far as fitness.
But I have lost sight of my abs... they'll 've back soon enough though.

It takes a bit of prep beforehand but not undoable. Make sure and eat pasta or rice the night before your am ride.
Bring food and electorlight replacing drinks and not just water.
And sugary fruit lightly through the ride beginning 25-30 minutes into the ride. I like dates and bananas.
Coffee is not a bad thing on the later end of your ride.
I had been thinking about getting a full on endurance road bike for a while and while I was at a truck stop in the DFW, TX area I watched a large driver get out of his truck and the cab tilted and rocked then he got off the step... 10 minutes after that I had called a bike shop to ask if they had the bike I was after in my size, they said yes and I ordered an Uber.
Gears make it too easy. Getting a bmx bike up an extremely steep mountain is where its at.

I plan on using Strava before to long... As of now I've been using Ridewithgps on my phone for finding rides others have made... that's kind of hit and miss for good routing.
