I would bet that such a person would find another job easily and probably be treated like a hero, to boot.

Really? So if you started a company, created some important policies to protect yourself and your business, and then hired people who promptly decided to break those policies and expose you as a company owner to all sorts of possible litigation, a loss of customers, and a loss of productivity you'd think they were heroes and you think other business owners would think they're heroes?

Sure, that makes sense because everyone wants team members who do whatever they want regardless of how it might impact the team's mission or the people around them. Sounds fantastic.

It's not hard to identify people who have never owned a business I'll tell ya. There's a whole lot more to this issue than just you versus some knucklehead in an office who doesn't like guns. Selfishness and a disregard for policies, regulations, and laws are not highly coveted traits employers are looking for, in case you didn't get the memo. I don't think there are too many people out there who have worked the past 20 or 30 or 50 years building a business so that some knucklehead can just come along, do whatever they like, and make a mess of the whole thing. Think about it.

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

I think I figured out the best answer.

Join the military. Request Motor Trash as an MOS. Then beg for ring mount, door or escort duty.

TADA! Always armed, and armored to boot.

BTW Before offering this suggestion, I triple checked with my DM , I clearly explained that I was nervous about going to the Otay Mesa terminal and felt it would be more than prudent to install a ring mount with a Ma Deuce on top, and an antipersonnel mine belt would really complete the package I even pointed out that I wouldn't technically be carrying weapons in the truck.

Jeesh, ya woulda thought I asked for a TruVue system with the number of ways he said no.

(And yes! I do have to much time on my hands while riding the bus)

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

I can confirm NJ is one of the toughest states for guns and even arrested LEO from another state who transported his weapon into NJ.

Also keep in mind....you use a gun in self defense. The cops don't press charges. You get terminated for failure to comply with company policy. You never get hired in trucking again....AND you just killed your reference for a non trucking job.

Also keep in mind...you needed to use a gun in self defense, but couldn't. You get terminated for failure to keep breathing. You never get hired for any job again.

Seriously, if it's a genuine life or death situation, getting fired is the least of your worries. If you're pulling out a gun and it isn't a genuine life or death situation, or wasn't one until you introduced deadly force into it, you've got bigger problems than making your employer unhappy with you.

Also keep in mind:

  • You need to stay out of jail
  • You need to have a career that pays the bills
  • Far more truck drivers get struck by lightning than will ever be in any sort of a life or death struggle
  • By the time anyone knows you have a gun it's almost certainly too late. Get a dog and people will know from a distance there are far better targets out there

Listen, in the end people are going to do what they want to do and TruckingTruth is never going to condone carrying a gun in the truck, so there's no need to argue the point. We'll tell you how this works and you decide what you want to do. It's your life, it's your career.

No one here knows more about guns and gun laws than Rick. He's laid it all out beautifully and now everyone has the information they need to make the right decision for themselves.

I'd rather still be alive to find another job.

And, why don't you think such a person would be able to find another job in trucking. There are many companies owned by pro-gun people. I would bet that such a person would find another job easily and probably be treated like a hero, to boot.

The reason you won't get another job in trucking isn't necessarily the firearm per se, it's that you got fired for violating company policy. If you're willing to violate that policy, what other ones would you be willing to violate.

They shall see my pet turtle and think "Oh no! He has a bulletproof shield!"

Then they wait and see another turtle. Believe me, some people hate turtles confused.gif

Yes, let me give it a few more whacks lol. Now that I think about it, there are probably s few hundred thousand drivers out there now, probably close to a 1/2 million trucks on the road at any given time. If violence against truckers were prevalent and rampant, I would think the news would be full of stories. I read one every now and then, but not enough for anyone to M60 on the roof, let alone use it.

I believe it's because i have swift on my door and i now fear for my safety because there are drivers out here that despise swift
