Hey guys, Please pardon my rookiness, and I'm sure I'll learn all this in school, but could you guys explain to rookies like me what the following terms/procedures are?

"qualcomm" "Turn-around" "Resetting" "14-hour limits" "DOT mandated 30 minute breaks"

Sorry-I'm learning a LOT from you guys,I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the stories, but some of the terms I'm seeing aren't real clear...

THANKS a truckload!(pun intended)

Qualcomm:

Omnitracs (a.k.a. Qualcomm) is a satellite-based messaging system with built-in GPS capabilities built by Qualcomm. It has a small computer screen and keyboard and is tied into the truck’s computer. It allows trucking companies to track where the driver is at, monitor the truck, and send and receive messages with the driver – similar to email.

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

OWI:

Operating While Intoxicated

Qualcomm: The electronic log used to track you, your miles, location. Its also your gps and log book. The device you use to communicate with your company. Turn-around: Getting a load from Say Cali to NC then turning around and going from NC to Cali. Resetting: Either a 10 hour break to reset your 11/14 or a 34 hr reset to reset you 70 hour work week. 14 hr limit: You are only allowed to work 14 hrs a day so if you start your clock at 6am you need to be done by 8pm. You can only drive 11 of those 14 hrs. 30 min breaks: It a new rule that states you have to take a 30 min break for every 8 hrs worked.
