There isn't a policy. The instructors posed it to the class as a "what would you do if you see sign that says all commercial vehicles must exit but your prepass is green?" Well we all answered just as everyone here has posted which is what our road trainers taught. The instructors said "Not me I'd go in because that metal painted sign trumps all." So I asked instructor what about the metal painted sign that says prepass follow in-cab instruction or the lighted sign that flashes after passing detection device that says "truck bypass scale" and the instructor continued to answer all our questions how he would do it but we never got any straight answer on whether there is a regulation or policy. I understand not all scale house are the same and some states don't have a prepass device and to be vigilant regarding all signage. Thanks for all the responses.

Forget the trainers and instructors. Call the citations, permits or safety department and ask them what the policy is. There is one, you just are getting conflicting info cause truckers are mostly independent, and "my way is better" type of alpha personalities. You need to be in this industry. How you run your truck and I run my will be totally different.
So I get the green light for a scale and see sign for all CMVs to enter. Well I figure let's play it safe/ find out. I wasn't worried about any issues. My weights are good; thorough PTIs. I scaled fine but sign lights up "park left, bring permit book and CDL." Oh boy! Oops maybe!? I bring documents in, DOT looks at them, quick tap tap on the computer and I tell him I got a green light but two of the instructors told us the "CMV must exit sign" trumps prepass. He says " no, green your good to go. Red or no light pull in. What's the point of paying for prepass if you still pull in?" That was my arguement. Hands me back my book and CDL and says "your good have a nice day." So! Per DOT officer; green you keep on rolling.
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.
State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.
A CMV is a vehicle that is used as part of a business, is involved in interstate commerce, and may fit any of these descriptions:
... So! Per DOT officer; green you keep on rolling.
Perfectly logical thinking... as long as the OP is only going to be driving in the same State, pulling into the same scale and dealing with the same DOT Officer.

Request for "PrePass" included in the Glossary section. Is it a device, part of a subscription, or just a green light sequence at a DOT scale in some states? After reading this thread, still uncertain. thx

Its a device that your company pays for, it sits on the windshield and gives you either a green light to pass or a red light to enter. The more of your company trucks that scale legally the less likely you are to get the red light.

Nope, not every company pays for it. Crete does not. We can order it, pay for the $15 monthly service, and use it on our assigned trucks, though.
When I was at CRST, we didn't have PrePass or the EasyPass for the toll booths, either. Had to carry lots of cash on some trips.

That’s what I do, I pay for DriveWyze and have the app on my phone and let it run while driving. It’ll give you the warnings as you get closer to a scale on the app.
That is crazy to me some of these companies do not provide it for company drivers. I use drivewyze on my tablet runs behind peoplenet I guess.

As I said in my post, but I guess you missed... the OP should have his company clarify his company's policy and then follow it. This is because we do not know his company's particular situation.
For example, we recently switched from one pre pass system to another. We now use Elite Pass. Since that switch, we must follow the signs rather thank the in cab device in some states... e.g. Georgia. This is because of a temporary issue between GA and Elite Pass.
