I gave a pretty long answer but then realized that this is a great topic for an article. I know everyone will have some sort of opinion on how we could make the training process better and I'd really enjoy hearing them and assembling them into a great article for next week.
I'm gonna make this a new topic and we can all chime in.
There are no two students alike; each responding differently and learning at there own pace. Not sure if there is a set formula that can accommodate every individual's needs.
Perhaps a hybrid of Brett's approach might work; evaluate every two weeks and only make a change if all concerned parties agree to it.
I still believe training quality would improve dramatically if each carrier would be consistent on accountability of the existing process.
Every time I read a story like the OP shared, I am grateful for having a successful and enjoyable training experience.
I have speed rules and ramp.rules. if you don't like taking them slowly, get off my truck cause I want to live.
If I ever end up at some point AFTER my CONTRACT is COMPLETED maybe becoming a LEAD DRIVER (that is what CRST calls their trainers) then this rule would MOST definitely apply.

I don't think the constant swap would work. It would be counter productive for the student. Imagine you are the student. You are already a knotted ball of nerves. Now say you are getting a different trainer every few days to a week. New expectations, new ways of doing things, never getting a chance to settle into a routine and become adjusted to expectations. I am not saying having a couple different trainers is a bad thing. Switching that frequently is. Maybe switching up students every 2-3 weeks. That is definitely doable. First week is going to be spent adjusting. The following week(s) is where the true learning will take place.
