I am so ready to do that. Time for me to get back out there and keep that left door shut and those wheels turnin. That way I can save up some cash and get me a house, car and never be homeless again.

Brett, please read that above quote. This is why I love helping everyone I can on this forum: Ryle, It sure makes my day knowing this post inspired you. I love doing things like this for people. Anyway I am confused also. Your status on here says Company Driver In Training yet you said also that the written stuff is coming back to you. That leads me to believe that you still need to get your permit back. Do you still currently have a current CDL Class A with a current DOT physical? Let me know and I can sure try to guide you the best way I can.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

I corrected status, as a former driver i didnt differentiate the difference. sorry bout that. Yes i am starting from scratch since its been 7 years when i left UsExpress. Loved working for USexpress, running dedicated out of Chicago for those 2-3years. Try running North and South Dakota in middle of winter, and unloading trailer for Dollar Tree. This time i went with CRST,(im in Dallas classes Monday) May go back to USexpress after contract. But thats step5-6 and im on step 0.5

Cool, thanks for the clarification. As a "new" driver let me do what we all do and give you the welcome packet as we call it:

Study the heck out of that High Road Training Program. That will really help you pass your permit tests the FIRST time. Also, I know you have your experiences in this industry however it wouldn't hurt to also read Brett's book. Its a great read and will give anyone the truth about the industry and a great idea about what to expect out here. In the meantime: Welcome to TruckingTruth. We are glad to have ya here on board with us and are here whenever you need advice on something.
